The City of Neptune Beach is a quiet coastal community located on the barrier island of San Pablo Island between the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west, in Duval County. Nestled on the northeast coast of Florida, Neptune Beach consists of approximately 2.5 square miles and is bordered by the City of Atlantic Beach to the north and the City of Jacksonville Beach to the south.

The town was named by Dan Wheeler, back in 1922, when he constructed his own train station next to his home, to eliminate his walk to and from Mayport to get to the train for work in nearby Jacksonville. The area was part of Jacksonville Beach, until in 1931, when there was a tax revolt and the residents voted to split away and incorporated into the City of Neptune Beach.

With an approximate population of 7,124, and a median age of 39, Neptune Beach is a casual, laid back community. Being a desirable beach location, the population doubles in the summer months, welcoming seasonal residents along with vacationers. Residents, along with the city planners, are committed to protect the city’s residential nature, by reducing traffic, making it a more pedestrian and bicycle friendly city, by adding parks and lush green spaces and keeping the town center a focal part of the community life. Neptune Beach is a friendly, active, neighborhood based community, with focus on managing development to preserve their great quality of life!

Neptune Beach has beautiful, breathtaking beaches. The are formed by the hard-packed sand, creating a shoreline desirable for cycling, running, jogging and getting in that morning, sunrise walk. There is plenty of roar in Neptune Beach’s surf that makes it attractive to all of the local and traveling surfers. People of all ages flock to enjoy a day at Neptune Beach.

The average household income is $102,060 for the residents of Neptune Beach. With almost half of the households consists of families, therefore, schools are a key factor for the residents. The Duval County School District serves as the public education system for the area. With Atlantic Beach Elementary providing an education for those in Pre-K through the 5th grade, it has a GreatSchools rating of 7, while Duncan U. Fletcher Middle School, with its 18-to-one student teacher ratio, comes in at an 8 rating for students of the 5th – 8th grades. Duncan U. Fletcher High School is where the Neptune Beach children in 9th – 12th graders attend. It received a GreatSchools rating of 7 and is above district average on all state testing. They are proud to offer the Advanced Placement program, which has a participation rate of 83%.

With 100% of the community over the age of 25 having a high school education, 52% have earned their Bachelor’s degree and 20% obtaining their Graduate or professional degree, education is a high priority here. The area has several great institutes to for them to continue their education close by. The students of Neptune Beach have the University of North Florida, which is about 8 miles away, Jacksonville University,which is approximately 13 miles away, while Florida State College, Jacksonville campus, is about 16 miles away, all located in Jacksonville.
