Atlantic Beach is a charming residential community located along Florida’s north Atlantic coastline. It is within Duval County and is part of the Jacksonville Beaches communities and consists of a beautiful three mile stretch of wide, soft sand beaches. With an approximate population of 13,368 people and an average age of 48 years old, Atlantic Beach has an unique small town quaintness.

Until 1900, Atlantic Beach was a small, seaside community, then Henry Flagler, founder of the Florida East Coast Railway, extended it and constructed the Mayport branch of the railway, with a station, where the Adele Grage Cultural Center is currently located. A key figure in development, Flagler decided to expand Atlantic Beach and built the large hotel, the Continental Hotel on the railroad line between Pablo Beach (Jacksonville Beach) and Mayport. It brought visitors to the area, who enjoyed its fishing pier, dance pavilion and tennis courts, making it an amicable place to vacation. In 1913, Atlantic Beach Corporation came in and bought most of the land, creating the city of Atlantic Beach. With World War going on, people didn’t travel as much and soon the company was bankrupt.

At the end of the war, progress began again, with the Town of Atlantic Beach incorporating in 1926. The Mayport Naval Station was commissioned in December 1942, and has become the third-largest naval surface fleet concentration area in the United States. The construction of the Mathews Bridge in 1953, led to further development of the town. The boundaries of Atlantic Beach have been extended, once in 1987 with the annexation of Seminole Beach and again in 1996, with the westerly boundaries going to the Intracoastal Waterway.
With close proximity of spectacular golf, excellent schools, beautiful parks and the big-city amenities of Jacksonville just a short drive away, Atlantic Beach is a wonderful community to call home.

The Atlantic Beach Country Club offers an 18-hole championship golf course, which was recently redesigned by the world-renowned golf course architect, Erik Larsen. It was a very special project for him, since Atlantic Beach is his hometown, he created it with a concept of risk vs. reward style course. Other golf courses within 5 miles of the community are Windsor Parke, Pablo Creek, Queens Harbour and Marsh Landing. These 4 star-rated courses are sure to prove challenging with their top rated designs.
